The Game Changer Programme is an initiative designed to challenge the social and cultural norms that contribute to domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV) in Ireland. It addresses behaviours such as harassment, victim-blaming, coercive control, sexual exploitation and violence, while promoting healthier attitudes and respectful relationships. Led by the GAA, in partnership with the LGFA, Camogie Association, Ruhama, and White Ribbon Ireland, the programme uses the positive influence of Gaelic Games to encourage players, volunteers and communities to become role models and active bystanders who challenge harmful behaviours. Through a suite of e-learning courses tailored for different age groups, Game Changer aims to equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to promote consent, healthy relationships and a culture of respect across Gaelic Games and wider society.

Game Changer e-learning modules Gender-based violence is defined as violence directed against a person because of their gender or violence that disproportionately affects a particular gender. This includes physical, sexual and psychological abuse, as well as threats, intimidation and controlling behaviours. Gender-based violence has wide-reaching impacts on individuals and communities. This is why the GAA, LGFA and Camogie associations partnered with Ruhama and White Ribbon Ireland to establish the Game Changer programme. We have launched four e-learning modules to empower communities to be allies and role models who foster a culture of respect on and off the pitch:

Module 1 – 14-15 years old. Respect Starts Here: Building Positive Relationships. Learn about respect, consent, boundaries, recognising harmful behaviours, bystander skills.
Module 2 – 16-17 years old. Breaking Barriers: Standing Against Gender-Based Violence. Learn about inclusivity, casual sexism, challenging gender stereotypes, bystander intervention.
Module 3 – 18+ players. Our Club, Our Community: Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Society. Learn about gender-based violence, bystander intervention, advocacy through sport.
Module 4 – 18+ coaches, volunteers, staff. Leadership in Action: Promoting a Culture of Respect. Learn about gender-based violence in sport, leadership, creating safer spaces, supporting victim survivors, and self-care.

Clubs can now report on completing the Game Changer modules (individually or in groups) under ‘Community Development’ on the Healthy Clubs portal. To access the modules, click here or scan the QR code and sign in or create a Tobar account. For underage users, a consent form will be made available for parents to provide permission to access the site.
